Alternative Press Expo
Always on the scout for exciting new 'zines and comic books, representatives of Dog Eared Books attended San Francisco's annual Alternative Press Expo. Accordingly, new (and thrilling) publications will be rolling into the store in the coming months. Food supplies were low however and here our scouts can be seen mauling each other.
Fun in The New Recession
Books are your best entertainment value! It's true, I read it on the internet (irony intentional). A movie costs ten bucks and lasts two hours, plus requires sitting in a room full of people coughing out germs at an alarming rate. For ten bucks you could get a new hardcover edition of your favorite novel. Reading it will probably take two or three times as long as watching the movie, and you can lend it to a friend when you're done. Such a deal!

a customer just came into the store and sold us a copy of this. i said, "i just read that! it's really good! alvin, if you buy it for the store, i'll make it a staff pick!"
i love bell hooks because she is all about love (... and i didn't even think of her book title by that name when i first started typing that) and its transformative possibilities. i was reading it over the election and when all of those people started blaming the passage of prop 8 on people of color, i had some amazing bell hooks quotes to back me up on how that is just racist and wrong. hurray!
